Yard Work

Well, I mowed the lawn last night.

I don't know what happened, but I swear our grass went from being dead and brown to being green and long enough to hide a small child overnight. Ryan is just way too swamped with school right now, so I realized it was going to be up to me to make it presentable. Can't be that hard, right? Well, it wouldn't be that hard if we had a normal lawn mower. But seeing as we have lived most of our married life in Arizona where we didn't actually have a lawn but just a few small patches of grass in our back yard, we only have a push mower. (I put that picture up there in case there were some of you who didn't know what a push mower was.)

Now I am not a wimp. I lift weights four to five times a week. I haul my 30 lb. baby around all day long and don't think twice about it. But I tell you, pushing that lawn mower through grass that was two feet tall was one of the hardest things I have ever done. After an hour of it I stumbled into the house, my arms quivering from exhaustion and asked Ryan if he could go borrow a real lawn mower from our friends. In an hour I had finished a whole FIVE SQUARE FEET of grass!

Luckily we have great friends! We borrowed a gasoline-powered mower, got some gas for it and then I finished the rest of the lawn. It was totally dark by the time I got done, which is probably a good thing, because I'm sure I looked absolutely ridiculous every time I had to pull on that cord thingy to get it started. Now tonight I will tackle the backyard!

Oh, and yes, we will be investing in a power mower as soon as we can!

We survived years with only a push mover. In fact it was just last summer we finally got a real lawn mover. Those push mowers really do give you a work out!

hey, now you don't have to lift weights for a couple of days right? or you could just mow the lawn everyday with the push mower, seeing how you have nothing better to fill your days besides working out, raising four children, and whatever else you have going on. Yeah, you're probably right, gas mower is a much better option!
